2nd World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference 2009

2nd World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference
In June over 900 dermatologists and rheumatologist from 66 countries gathered in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss the latest scientific fact about psoriasis. The theme "Psoriasis -Skin and beyond" focused on the change of view regarding psoriasis as more than a skin disease.

We now know that there are several other medical problems than psoriasis arthritis linked to psoriasis, e.g. risk for cardiovascular conditions, eye problems, inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes and obesity. The purpose of the conference was to bring all aspects of the psoriasis patient together in one conference and from a patient?s point of view discuss new scientific facts and studies.

The quality of presentations during the conference was extraordinary. The diverse faculty deftly managed to translate the conference program into a highly informative and interactive educational experience. This conference is a unique forum that combines the expertise of rheumatologists, dermatologists and other physicians from both the clinical and scientific arenas to address issues related to psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.  It is our hope that information disseminated at this conference will translate into a better understanding of disease mechanisms and improved treatment care.  We hope that this conference provided a fertile atmosphere for the development of novel collaborations.

The plans for the next conference have already started. We welcome you back in 2012.

The First World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference 2006

The First World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference 2006, held in Stockholm, Sweden, May 31-June 4, brought nearly 700 dermatologists, rheumatologists, scientists, patient leaders and industry together for the first time to focus on the international needs of all people with psoriasis. As a result, they created new research strategies, identified critical needs in access to care, and fostered ongoing partnerships.

The conference proved to be a great success and the next is tentatively planned for April 2009. Mark your calendar to join IFPA for the 2nd World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, once again.

Statement by the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations on the 2006 First World Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Conference, Stockholm, Sweden

Around 125 million people  up to 3% of the worlds population are marked by psoriasis, a serious disease that affects the skin and joints. People with psoriasis are socially isolated and physically debilitated. Research shows their quality of life is impacted as greatly as those with cancer, diabetes and depression. Better diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis is needed now to alleviate the suffering of many millions of people around the world who are not getting the help they need.
